Bob Blaschke, IC Regulatory Systems Supervisor, and Adam Minc, IC Regulatory Associate, recently attended an important workshop regarding challenges facing consumer product companies and their retailers. They heard presentations from the California government’s DTSC Legislative and Policy Director, as well as retailers like Walmart. They participated in discussions about how products like shampoos qualify as toxic waste and learned that large retailers have received significant fines for unknowingly disposing of returned/unsaleable goods without sorting appropriately.  The costs of these fines in many cases have been passed back to consumer products companies.  This has also created additional requirements from the retailers for products sold in their stores.
